Pharrell Earns Academy Awards Nomination

One half of The Neptunes earns an Oscar nod as the nominees are announced for the 86th annual Academy Awards.

The 86th annual Academy Awards nominations were announced today (January 16). Pharrell, Karen O, Spike Jonze and Bono were among the musicians nominated for music-based awards for the event. 

Pharrell's "Happy" earned a nomination for Best Original Song due to its placement on Despicable Me 2's original soundtrack. Pharrell wrote, produced and performed the song, a selection that also worked as his muse for a 24-hour music video which was released in November. Despicable Me 2 was also nominated for Best Animated Film.
