Weeks after releasing his album, Because the Internet, rapper/actor Childish Gambino has treated fans to a new visual offering with his Chicken And Futility short film. Released this week, the film is three minutes and features Gambino and two of his friends, Steve and Swank.

Popular, fast-food chain Chick-fil-A and their recent same-sex marriage controversy along with a break down of why moths are drawn to light bulbs dominate the conversation between Gambino and his two companions.

“Aren’t we supposed to not be eating there cause of the gay stuff…It’s for more of like a group,” Gambino says. “It’s like if there’s a group of people and they’re like, ‘Let’s go to Chick-fil-A’ and one person’s like, ‘I don’t wanna go to Chick-fil-A,’ then that forces you to talk about it. I think that’s, that’s a point.”

Gambino later ponders over the behavior of moths before offering an explanation as to why the insects are drawn to light bulbs.

“I saw this moth in my room and it was going towards the light bulb and it was buzzing around it and I wanted to know why they did that, so I looked it up,” he says. “It’s because moths are looking for the moon. They’re looking for moonlight because they’re trying to fly North. So this moth, everything in it’s telling it to do exactly what it’s doing. It’s doing the right thing, but it’s just the wrong light.”

The conversation then circles back to Chick-fil-A before the short film reaches its conclusion. Written and directed by Childish Gambino, Chicken And Futility doesn’t serve as the first time the Stone Mountain musician has released his own short film. In 2013, Gambino starred alongside actress Danielle Fishel and fellow artist Chance The Rapper in Clapping For The Wrong Reasons, another short film he created.
