Nitty Scott, MC Crowns Macklemore 2013's Most Important Rapper

Exclusive: Nitty Scott, MC says Macklemore's year "was very inspiring to watch."

Nitty Scott, MC recently spoke with HipHopDX about who she feels is the most important emcee of the year. According to Nitty, that title belongs to Macklemore, the rapper who teamed up with Ryan Lewis to release The Heist in 2012.

"I would have to say Macklemore," Nitty said in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. "It's not because I personally listen to a lot of his stuff. I wouldn't go as far as considering myself a fan, but I do enjoy his music. I just think he broke a lot of barriers this year as an independent act and certain odds that are against him being a White rapper, for example."

Nitty Scott, MC also said that she sees parallels between White emcees and women who rap.

"I kind of feel like female rappers and White rappers kind of share the same plight where it's very hard for us to find our own identity within this," she said. "We're always sort of categorized according to gender and race, which is ridiculous in 2013. It's very hard to shine for what you want to stand for message-wise and musically when you're always kind of thrown into this pool. I feel like [Macklemore] really made himself stand out. He really beat all those odds that were against him and he was very strategic as well. He had a great year, a great record and it was very inspiring to watch."

While Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' The Heist was released in 2012, Mack & Lewis have been featured in the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart all year. At least in part because of that, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were nominated for several categories in various award shows this year, including the American Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards and the YouTube Music Awards
