Producer-rapper JD also took to Twitter and Instagram to complain about the nature of the traffic stop.
Per TMZ’s post—a product of an allegedly obtained police report—the Miami Beach police officers who conducted the stop pulled the vehicle over as a function of apparently illegal window tinting. After the stop, police claim that “a strong odor of marijuana” allowed a legal searching of the car and its passengers.
Jermaine Dupri, who was one of the passengers in the Lincoln branded vehicle, was searched and patted down. While the police officers were unable to discover any marijuana, TMZ’s article reports that a solitary Xanax tablet was found on another passenger.
Xanax is a trademarked benzodiazepine medication also commonly referred to as alprazolam when prescribed generically. The drug, which is prescribed as an anti-anxiety medication that can also be used in concert with other prescriptions to combat chemotherapy derived nausea and discomfort, is one of the country’s most prescribed drugs. As a function of its widely prescribed status, Xanax and alprazolam are commonly obtained illegally and used as a recreational drug by many Americans. As a consequence of its widespread availability, Xanax also accounts for a large percentage of pharmaceutical misuse cases leading to hospital visits. The drug has been referenced commonly in lyrics from Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and more.
After discovering the Xanax pill, police requested K-9 support to further search the vehicle and its passengers. Jermaine Dupri reported via a Tweet directed towards TMZ that five police vehicles assisted in the stop.

Given that Xanax is a prescribed drug, police requested proof that the passenger was legally prescribed. After providing his prescription, the vehicle and its passengers were let go.
Jermaine Dupri also reportedly complained of being a victim of "rapper profiling," as per TMZ. Dupri also reportedly hinted at the possibility that the police followed the vehicle from the club from which it departed. Per TMZ’s report, the Miami Beach Police Department issued a statement claiming the stop and procedure were legal.
