The Hip Hop Week In Review: TDE Executives & Birdman Discuss Drake

Two TDE executives react to Drake's verse on Future's new remix, while Birdman discusses Drake fallout rumors. Beyonce also drops a surprise album.

This week, two TDE executives reacted to Drake’s verse on Future’s “Shit” remix, while Birdman discussed Drake fallout rumors. Beyonce’s surprise album also topped the charts.

TDE Executives React To Drake’s Verse On Future’s “Shit” Remix

TDE’s Top Dawg and Punch responded on Twitter to Drake’s verse on Future’s “Shit” remix, which was released Tuesday (December 17).

The music executives appear to be taking Drake’s verse as a response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse of Big Sean’s “Control.”

On Future’s song, Drake raps, “I hear you talkin' ‘bout your city like you run there / Then I brought my tour to your city, you my son there."

Elsewhere on the song, Drake says, “If a nigga say my name he the hot shit / But if I say that nigga name he still the hot shit.” The Canadian rapper also says, “Funny how they dangling the bait but I’m the one that’s killing niggas on the hook.”

Top Dawg and Punch’s tweets are below.

Big Sean’s “Control” was released August 12. On the song, Kendrick Lamar rapped, "I'm usually homeboys with the same niggas I'm rhymin’ with. But this is Hip Hop and them niggas should know what time it is. That goes for Jermaine ColeBig K.R.I.T.Wale,Pusha T, Meek MillA$AP RockyDrake, Big Sean, Jay Electron[ica], Tyler[, the Creator]Mac Miller. I got love for you all but I'm tryin' to murder you niggas. Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas [and that] they don't want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas. What is competition? I'm trying to raise the bar high."

Future’s “Shit” remix, which also features Juicy J, is featured on DJ Esco’s No Sleep mixtape.

Birdman Addresses Drake Fallout Rumors

Fallout rumors regarding Drake and Cash Money Records have been circulating recently. According to YMCMB head Birdman, the rumors are not substantiated.

In a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid of Shade 45, Baby says the Toronto rapper will always be family with the label and that he has nothing for love for Drake and his OVO team.

"Drake was a fan before a friend [with Cash Money] and maybe we put the most on the table but that was thing, I thought he was a very talented young man so we saw a future with him and we wanted him to be comfortable, but at the end of the day Drake made the decision of where he wanted to be," Birdman said regarding signing Drake to the YMCMB. "Drake is my little brother, I love him man and don't believe everything you hear. Drake down with the team for life. I got nothing but love for Drake and the whole OVO camp."

Hip Hop Albums Sales Week Ending 12/15/2013

Beyonce's unexpected album release December 13 paid off for the singer. Her self-titled visual album iTunes exclusive did not have a full week to chart, but the project still landed at the top of this week's album chart. The collection sold more than 600,000 units this week, her highest first-week sales of all time. This total beats her previous best, which she earned in 2006, when B'day sold approximately 541,000 units in its first week. Beyonce also became the fastest-selling project to debut on iTunes.

Beyonce was released as a visual album, featuring 14 selections and 17 videos. The project is being sold for $15.99. Songs are not scheduled to be available for individual purchase until December 20. Along with the album, Beyonce also released a two-part art feature this week
