Several Snoop Dogg albums have clocked in at more than an hour. For his 7 Days Of Funk project, on which he collaborated with producer Dam-Funk as Snoopzilla and which was released today (December 10), Snoop Dogg took a different approach.
The collection clocks in a just over 30 minutes, a conscious choice Snoop Dogg and Dam-Funk made when crafting the collection.
“Makes you want more,” Snoopzilla says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “We just be looking at it like it’s only 34 minutes of music. That’s all we gave up was 34 minutes. But it’s 34 minutes of quality music, good music. Babygirl that [did an] interview with me, she was like, ‘That music reminds me of a big hug. I could just play it from top to bottom.’ There’s a lot of albums you can’t play from top to bottom anymore, you gotta go to your favorite song and go back and go forward. This record you could play from top to bottom. And it’s 34 minutes, so by the time you get to where you going, it just started all over again, and you back riding again.”

Snoop Dogg, who released the reggae-themed Reincarnated album as Snoop Lion earlier this year, sings and raps throughout 7 Days Of Funk. As the producer, Dam-Funk gave Snoop Dogg creative freedom on how to approach each track.
“I just left it up to Snoop,” Dam-Funk says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “I mean he was in charge of all of that. He really did a good job. And it was like a telepathic type of vibe, where I didn’t have to say too much or anything at all. It’s like he just handled it and knew where to put different nuances in and place the cadences. His rhythm matches everything I wanna hear on a track. So it worked out beautifully.”
Snoop Dogg and Dam-Funk were so in sync that they both name “Faden Away” as their favorite 7 Days Of Funk song.

“I’m singing like a mothafucker on there,” Snoop Dogg says. “I just like the concept, too. When you get in a relationship with somebody, it could be with your wife, it could be with your girlfriend, it could be with your kids, it could be with your mom, it could be with your brothers, ’cause your relationships are relationships. And it gets to a point in time where it begins to fade away. But you try your best to hold on and keep the good things there. And a lot of times, we always looked at the ones who make the relationship go bad, but when it go bad, we the ones who try to keep the relationship together. So it’s like that song represents so much of who I am and what I’m going through. Not even on a personal tip, but on a business tip. Maybe I’m fading away on a business tip, or the music side. Maybe I’m fading away careerwise. But it just feels like, 20 years from now, that record is still gonna be the shit, no matter where we at.”
“He just came so gangsta,” Dam-Funk adds. “It had that heart and soul that people want and love to hear from Snoop.”
