During an interview with the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Chicago rapper Kanye West spoke on the similarities shared between himself and fellow Watch The Throne emcee Jay Z. According to Ye, who spoke on his similarities with Jay after being asked about a Watch The Throne follow-up, both artists use the studio as a way of letting out their frustrations.

Kanye went on to explain that the frustrations the pair faces stem from “breaking down boundaries” with projects such as Jay’s partnership with the Brooklyn Nets and the introduction of Roc Nation Sports.

“I can’t say when, but that’s my brother, so we go in the studio, we start thinking of some ideas and have something we wanna say and get off our chests,” said Kanye. “Cause we both are frustrated because we both breaking down boundaries and walls in our own way. It’s like that man had to do everything he did in his career to be able to get a piece of the Nets…And then when he wanted to get into baseball everybody complaining at him like ‘How you ain’t gonna…’ Everybody got they ideas of what they would do if they was you, but there’s no other me or Jay Zs. You know what I’m saying? So, a lot of times we have to take into consideration public opinion to a certain extent, but then also take the education that we doing.”

Kanye was again asked to address his “creative genius” remarks, which were first made during the rapper’s appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Ye confirmed that in his mind he is a creative genius and that his comments about holding that title have not been misconstrued.

“Exactly that. It’s not misconstrued,” he said. “Yeah, I don’t know any other way to word it. You know what I’m saying? I mean, like I’m just—I’m having to turn up because what happens is I’ll go and have a meeting with Louis Vuitton or go have a meeting with Disney. And they will say, ‘Well, you’re a musician.’ Because that’s what I make money at. And I’m like ‘No, I’m a creative genius [meaning] I have a perspective and if I apply myself and get the right tools I will make the best version of it that you’ve ever seen of anything.’”

Kanye’s initial “creative genius” comments were made as he was interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel in October of this year and was asked about his interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe.

“When I did that interview [with BBC Radio 1], I was really vocal about a lot of the things I’ve been dealing with over the past ten years, in classification of just a celebrity, because for me, I’m a creative genius,” said Ye. “There’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself. I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention is always positive. I want to bring more things to the world. I want to help the world.”
