Eminem Sets Billboard Record For A Solo Act

This week, Eminem landed his first #1 song on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart and placed at least four songs in the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart as a lead artist this week, as per rollingstone.com.

The latter feat hasn’t been accomplished since The Beatles did it in 1964. In April of that year, the British quartet had six songs in the Top 20 for two consecutive weeks.

Eminem’s “The Monster” was #3 on the Hot 100 chart, while “Berzerk,” “Survival” and “Rap God” landed at #15, 16, and 17, respectively. All of Eminem’s songs are featured on his The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which arrived in stores Tuesday (November 5).

“The Monster,” which also features Rihanna, is Eminem’s first #1 tune on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart.

Several artists, including 50 Cent in 2005, T-Pain in 2007-08, Lil Wayne in 2008 and Ludacris in 2010, have had at least four cuts in the Top 20 since The Beatles, according to rollingstone.com. But at least one of the songs from each artist featured them as a guest, not the main artist. Eminem and The Beatles are the lead artists on each of their songs on the charts.

The Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Please Please Me” and “I Saw Her Standing There” were among the Top 20 the first week of the group’s record-setting run in April 1964. The second week, “Do You Want to Know a Secret” rose into the Top 20, replacing  “I Saw Her Standing There.”

      1. It’s “at least 4”; he’s the first person since The Beatles to get 4 songs minimum in the Top 20 of Billboard simultaneously as the lead artist. 6 is more than 4; so it doesn’t really tie a record as much as reach a milestone.

Other artists (50, Ludacris, T-Pain and Wayne) have all had 4 songs in the Top 20; but at least one of them was a feature with someone else.

    1. One thing that puts a huge asterisk on eminem’s record is that he buys at least 70% of the downloads and also pays radio stations to put his songs on. In contrast, wayne didn’t even have to promote his songs in order for them to get played.

      1. You guys act is if you don’t know I got brain damage from Birdman skull-fucking me. I have nothing better to do than be here, I explained that in a different topic. I’m not going anywhere so get used to me.

      1. Berzerk is eh and Survival is pretty good. I have yet to see an argument as to how Survival is a bad song. Generic hook does not equal bad song.

      2. I think he’s speaking from a hip hop point of view. It’s not a great hip hop joint. But eminem don’t really make hip hop anymore.

      3. Doesn’t mean they are bad songs otherwise though. I listen to rap for rappers, not for “hip hop” beats, although I obviously like those too.

      1. how you know that’s this bruthadee tho?

if you don’t know what the OP was saying then you just will never understand what’s really going on

    2. “KKUSHy Green:

      nigga use yo brain, 4 = 6

the fuck did u learn in school u fucking dumbass”

      ^ LOL

      LMAO

      how does 4=6?

    3. who gives a fuck… the beatles music is timeless while these wack azz records will be forgotten about in like a year or two’s time

      1. that makes no sense because The Marshal Mather’s lp is a well known classic! and the Eminem Show is still remembered as one of the greatest albums of all time which also makes it a classic so…. you sir are a douche!!! internet hater alert lol

      2. no one will ever be as big as the beatles were

it was a different time and they aint have shit like mtv and the internet

      3. You guys are forgetting one thing and its that Eminem did all this as a ”solo” artist and not as a group, and
And he did it THROUGH, (RAP)?
Thats an hard act to follow if u ask me.

    4. Eminem just became 41 and he still got abs man. I want him to cum inside me baby. rub my tits and fuck me hard Em, pls

and @ Anonymous2 i always buy albums. so cut that out and like i just told hanna, you ae way off subject…..Did yu guys even bother reading my comment??

      1. Em is the highest selling artist in rap. How are you going to say that Lil Wayne outsells Em? The Carter 3 has sold 3.6 Mil compared to Recovery’s 5 mill. Go kill yourself.

    5. Go suck off Wayne cause if your trying to include Gayne in the same category as Em you must have suffered a minor stroke.

      1. youre just too dumb to comprehend anything hes saying. he doesnt talk about “the hood life”, in which you probably live (to an extent). his words are too big for you to understand. hopefully non of the words i just typed are. stupid niggr

    6. until I looked at the check four $4800, I have faith that…my… friend woz like actually erning money parttime at their computer.. there friend brother started doing this for only 8 months and resently paid for the debts on their cottage and got a great Lotus Esprit. visit the website http://WWW.FB39.COM

He obviously dissed the system where white men in suits from Hollywood try to adapt the music so that it would appeal to the masses and would fuck up their mentaility. What the fuck were you thinking? He hates Hollywood cause they make movies over there? Moron.

    7. “compete? i think you meant to say DOMINATE todays crowded marketplace”

I meant to say exactly what I said. The Carter IV first week sales blew Eminem out of the water.

      1. Dafuck you talkin bout?

The Marshall Mathers LP (2000): 1,760,000 copies sold first week.
The Eminem Show (2003): 1,322,000 copies sold first week.
Encore (2004)(released early because of leaks): 750,000 copies sold in the first 3 days, 1.3 million in its first full week of release…

Lil Wayne The Carter III (2008): 1,006,000 copies sold first week.

    8. Em deserved this shit. you can tell he put a lot of effort in this album and you can hear it. album is dope. its flooded my ipod since i bought it

funny reading comments on here. very entertaining

    9. I was comparing Eminem’s latest album with Wayne’s last real album, not the one that went gold. Eminem is selling far below his expectations. He should have went platinum on the name of the album alone.

      1. Are you retarded? Eminem is selling well in his expectations and the album will go platinum like the others. Also, Wayne’s last real album did go gold.

      2. ever heard of main stream rap music?? notice how the majority of them suck to people that actually know music? lol eminem and wayne are CLEARLY untalented but they make so much much money because all of their fans are retarded and brainwashed by the mainstream media…they dont give a fuk about their fans lol… all the fans are doing is supplying them with cash that they always raps and yaps about… Nas on the other hand he never changed he was hungry when he sold over 20 mill and still is

    10. Records are made when the right people are paid and everyone can set all kinds of records when data is manipulated, twisted and looked in a certain way. This has forced publicity stunt to create free press for the album written all over it. Hey, let’s release four solo cuts at once and shove them down the throats, to invent new records.

Not to take anything away from Em, he worked hard on the album I’m sure of it, and I don’t think he cares so much about this other stuff himself, I blame the label marketing team.

      1. Yeah. Eminem comes out of hiding every several years and releases songs that don’t seem to have any purpose besides to be hyped to death. Consumers are led to believe the Goat is back, and it’s sad because Eminem may still be able to sell millions, but his talent level has dimished probably more than any other rapper, including 50 Cent.

    11. eminem was a bitch for a long time. whatever you muthafuckas think, eminem aint shit. in OAKLAND, we aint got no white feminem muthafucka trying to rap in here haha. one thing about this faggot, he makes 14 out of 16 tracks about his fucking family, WHO THE FUCK DO THAT? fuckin boring wigger, we dont give a fuck about his mom or daughter. fucking sellout bitches fuck outta here

    12. Em still breaking records @41? Fuck are the new cats doing? An old ass man still pushing boundaries? Shame on the new cats!!!!!

    13. Yep thats right yall! Eminem is still number 1! All of your hateful comments you spew using your keyboards and smartphones can never change this fact! Well deserved accomplishment Em! 🙂

    14. “Eminem is selling well in his expectations and the album will go platinum like the others. Also, Wayne’s last real album did go gold”

Expectations were a million, and I Am Not A Human Being wasn’t his last real album. The Carter IV was, and it put up numbers Eminem should have. Don’t be mad cause the truth was introduced today.

      1. No, they weren’t. No one besides Eminem’s fans said that he would do a million. Industry experts said he’s gonna do 750K. INAHB2 IS his last real album, dumbass. It’s a full-fledged studio album that got singles and promotion, so it counts. Recovery alone outsold every Wayne album ever. And hat truth? It’s all a lie.

    15. Promotion? lol From who? Wayne himself couldn’t promote it. The Carter series is his bread the butter. Everybody knows that. Eminem has the same pop fanbase as JT who sold a million like it was nothing. Why couldn’t Em repeat the feat he himself has done before? Every artist has that one album that hurts them later down the road. Relapse was that album for Em. I don’t care about the sales. It was awful, and real hip hop heads realized this, and stopped supporting him. Plus, Dre was absent, and even 50 Cent was nowhere to be found. This isn’t the same Eminem people remember. So for the last time, 700,000 + is very good, but far short of the standard Eminem himself set.

      1. Everything you just said is all a lie. Wayne and Cash Money promoted the hell outta INAHB2. Eminem is a hip-hop artist and JT is a pop artist and pop artists sell more than hip-hop artists, that’s a fact. Eminem will always sell a lot; he doesn’t need to sell a million 1st week. And hip-hop heads still support him, I don’t know what you’re still talking about. 700K is not short for Eminem’s standards at all. Stop hating on Eminem.

      2. Considering the industry is half the size now then it was when mmlp came out. I think 700k is pretty good this would be equal to 1.4 in a week. Besides the fact that this was not about creating a competition between the two mmlp albums. It was more for eminem to revisit topics that he was not finished with, or his opinion had matured. I don’t think these numbers have anything to do with eminem being hurt by relapse. It has more to do with the entire industry being hurt by piracy.

    16. “He still tops your favorite rappers”

Jay Z may lag behind in sales, but he’ll be remembered more than Eminem. You can take that check to the bank and deposit it.
