As November 5, the release date of Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2, approaches, the Detroit emcee continues to discuss his latest project.

In an interview on DJ Whoo Kid’s Shade 45 show, Eminem spoke specifically about recording with Rick Rubin, one of the executive producers of the project.

“I’m a huge fan of Rick, and the shit that he does, and how he’s able to dip in and out of different genres of music and master all of them,” said Em. “That’s pretty fucking crazy how he can do it. And obviously, his early work and shit with the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC. There was a little intimidation factor going in. I’m just such a fan and was just anxious and nervous to meet him, let alone work with him. And the fact that he even wanted to reach out and work with me is super humbling to me.”

Eminem continued, “But it was fun. It was fun because, Rick, he’s pretty easy to work with. Whatever ideas you got, throw ’em out there, he’s willing to try whatever. At the end of the day, whatever we don’t like, we can always take it out, keep this idea, scrap this one.”

Eminem spoke about early Def Jam music, much of which was produced by Rubin, who co-founded the label. “I just want to say this: I’m a super fan of all the early ’80s Hip Hop, man. All the early Beastie Boys shit, on Licensed to Ill, how they incorporated all the Led Zeppelin samples and all that, and the early Run-DMC shit, how those first few albums were so Rock-influenced. There’s something to be said about the nostalgia of bringing that back, and getting with Rick, I was hoping to tap into some of that, because I started fuckin’ around on the Slaughterhouse album, I think, with some of the older sounds, just vintage scratches and whatever. …I had already kinda started doing that, but I was hoping to get with Rick and take it to another level.”
