Rihanna Posts Photo Of Herself With Protected Species, Animal Keepers Later Arrested
A Rihanna selfie gets a pair of animal keepers arrested.
Rihanna's Instagram photos have often been racy or controversial, but it's unlikely that they've ever gotten anyone arrested—until now.
Billboard reports that the Pop star spent a weekend enjoying a beach in Thailand, taking photos and posting them on Instagram along the way. One such photo, taken on the Island of Phuket, showed Rihanna with a primate known as the slow loris, accompanied by the caption, "Look who was talkin dirty to me!"
"Phuket authorities were alerted to the picture (of Rihanna), and last night police arrested the two individuals who brought out the loris as a photo opportunity for tourists," said Phuket district chief, Weera Kerdsirimongkon.
Police confiscated two lorises from a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy. Both could face charges of possession of protected animals, which can result in up to four years in prison and a 40,000 baht ($1,300) fine.
"It's like a cat-and-mouse game," said Kerdsirimongkon of attempts to crack down on wildlife exploitation. "But this time it's bigger because a celebrity like Rihanna posted the picture, and there were more than 200,000 'likes' from around the world."
Rihanna is currently on her Diamonds World Tour. The tour's next stops are Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.
