Common Promises EP & Details Vince Staples Collaboration
Exclusive: Common explains how Vince Staples has impressed and influenced him. The Chicago, Illinois rapper also talks about his upcoming EP.
Yesterday (September 7), Common said that his upcoming EP, yet to be titled, is set to feature Long Beach, California’s Vince Staples.
“I got my man Vince Staples on a song,” Common said in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “I like him. He’s cold on the mic. When I heard him rapping, I was like, ‘This dude can really rhyme.’ It made me want to write.”
Common’s future plans in music go beyond his aforementioned forthcoming EP.
“I've only got a couple songs, but I’m gonna get the EP done quick and then I’m gonna release an LP at the top of next year,” Common said.
In September 2012, Common said that he would be releasing an album in January 2013.
"I am writing a new album," Common said. "It will be coming out in January, and I'm looking forward to that. My stuff will come at the top of the year, maybe some songs out there on the street level. I'm going to work with No I.D. and looking to hopefully work with Kanye [West] and that's some of the major people I'll be working with, and whatever other great talents that I feel are going that direction that I want the album to be."
In January 2013, Common promised a trio of projects to be released this year.
"I'm coming out with an EP at the end of this month that's accompanying the movie Luv, and then I've got a mixtape - the first mixtape I've ever done in my life - will be coming out in April and then an album in September," Common said.
Common’s upcoming EP is set to follow his last effort, The Dreamer/The Believer, which was released in 2011. That album featured "Ghetto Dreams" featuring Nas and "Sweet," a song that fueled a rivalry with Drake.
