Following a "Best Hip Hop Video" loss at the MTV Video Music Awards, Drake performs "Started From The Bottom" and "Hold On, We're Going Home."

Canadian singer/rapper Drake was one of few Hip Hop acts to grace the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this evening (August 25), as he performed “Started From The Bottom” and crooned his way through his latest single, “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”

The Young Money emcee kicked off his solo performance in front of a backdrop similar to the one featured on his upcoming album, Nothing Was The Same.

Prior to the awards show, Drake spoke briefly to MTV News and shared a handful of details in regards to his VMA performance.

"I get to do the new record, I'm doing 'Hold On, We're Going Home' into 'Started From The Bottom,'" said Drake. "So [it's] really just an exciting performance to show the range and also show the diversity of music on the album."

In addition to performing at the VMA’s, Drake also received a “Best Hip Hop Video” nomination for “Started From The Bottom” and was beat out by Seattle duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and their “Can’t Hold Us” video.

Other Hip Hop acts to perform at the 30th annual MTV Video Music Awards included Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar.

Drake’s Nothing Was The Same LP is currently set for release on September 24.
