One of the most anticipated sets of the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards will undoubtedly be Drake’s. After practicing his performance for Sunday night’s show at the Barclays Center, the Toronto rapper caught up with MTV and talked about what fans can expect.
“I get to do the new record, I’m doing ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ into ‘Started From the Bottom,'” Drake said when explaining the songs fans can expect to hear. “So [it’s] really just an exciting performance to show the range and also show the diversity of music on the album.”
Beyond the music, Drake also touched on the aesthetics of his set and says fire doesn’t scare him.

“We’re blowing the stage up, I got things going off, I had to test with the fire marshal and it’s gonna be good,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for a while, pyro doesn’t scare me. You know I’m ready, if you’ve ever been on stage with Lil Wayne, he likes explosions and they’re loud you know, so I’m used to it.”
Drake recently announced that Jay Z and Lil Wayne are going to be featured on his September 17 release. He said that
“This album is about growth.” He also recently talked with XXL about the difficulty of dropping his album amidst other very notable releases.
Perhaps Drake’s most notable on-stage VMA memory was when he introduced Lil Wayne in 2011 after being absent from the awards show all evening.
