DJ Khaled Says Proposal To Nicki Minaj Was Done To Promote New Record

Although it sounded like a move straight out of an episode of “Love & Hip Hop,” it’s now been revealed that DJ Khaled was not serious about last weekend’s proposal to Young Money rapstress Nicki Minaj. The New Orleans-born producer went on to profess his love for Minaj in a video proposal and even brought out a ring said to be worth half-a-million dollars to show his love.

A few days after the proposal was made, DJ Khaled revealed that he was “joking” and was merely hoping to promote his new single, “I Wanna Be With You.”

“I was joking. It was having fun,” Khaled revealed during an interview with Virginia’s Power 92.1. “We be so busy making these big hits, I wanted to come with a dope plan to present the next mass record…I thought I did pretty good on the proposal.”

Minaj also offered her thoughts on the proposal, stating that no one in her circle took Khaled’s words “seriously.”

“Peoples’ perception of their reality is their perception of their reality,” Minaj said. “Sometimes people make moves based on their perception of what reality is. I know that sounds like a riddle, but maybe one day you’ll be able to unravel that one. All I can say is this, Lil Wayne is everything to me. I can’t speak for anyone else…Whatever happens with any other artist, I don’t know.”

Audio from Nicki Minaj’s interview with Funkmaster Flex can be found below.

Harry Belafonte Says His Heart Is Ready For A Sit-Down With Jay-Z

During an interview with MSNBC, Belafonte attempted to clarify comments he made in regards to Jay-Z and Beyonce last year and offered to sit down with the couple.

“I would hope that Jay Z would not take personally what was said because it was not said about him personally. Having said that, I would like to say to Jay Z, to Beyonce: My heart is wide open and filled with nothing but hope and the promise that we can sit and have a one-on-one,” Belafonte revealed. “And lets understand each other rather than try to answer these questions and these nuances in a public place.”

Jay-Z has yet to respond to Belafonte’s requests for a sit-down.

Tech N9ne Interview & “Something Else” Album Review

On the cusp of the release of Something Else, Kansas City lyricist Tech N9ne spoke exclusively with HipHopDX about the project and even a sexual assault addressed on the album, an incident which took place years ago when the rapper was in the seventh grade.

“There is a part in your brain where you store things that you don’t want to let loose, because it can hurt everybody around you… The thing with my seventh grade teacher, I can’t say the name because that’s against the law. So yeah, I dug into that place where I keep everything that can hurt people around me,” said the rapper.

Tech N9ne addresses the incident on the Something Else record “I Am Not A Saint” and hopes the song will help those who have gone through the same thing be “more comfortable” sharing their stories.

In addition to this week’s interview with Tech N9ne, the rapper’s album, Something Else, was also reviewed this week on HipHopDX.

With guest features “straight from a blogger’s dream,” the project boasts appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Cee Lo Green, Big K.R.I.T. and more. Despite a lengthy list of guest appearances on Something Else, Tech does manage to show off his varied lyrical talent.

“One minute, he is a fire-breathing rapper with a large amount of darkness that could slice your retina with one verse. The next, he is a softer, blemished parent that wants what’s best for his seeds and just likes to breathe easy. But this flip is what makes the album work and gives it its core. It’s authentic and full of heart while capturing the duality of man,” read HipHopDX’s review.
