Pete Rock Explains Uniting With Camp Lo For

Pete Rock talks "80 Blocks From Tiffany's Pt. II" and also reveals that his collaborative album with DJ Premier is underway.

This week, Mount Vernon, New York producer/emcee Pete Rock and Camp Lo released 80 Blocks From Tiffany's Pt. II. The free album/mixtape was premiered at DatPiff.com, and marks the second installment in the collaborative series since 2011.

In an interview with The Examiner, the producer for Nas, Bumpy Knuckles and Heavy D & The Boyz explained crossing paths with the former Profile Records stars Geechie Suede and Sonny Cheeba. "I was a fan of [Camp Lo] and when I bumped into them in the street. We basically chit-chatted about the respect in the game that both of us have and decided to get together and do something."

This year's installment has one critical difference from the 2011 effort, also free. "I produced [80 Blocks From Tiffany's Pt. II]. Part One, they took instrumentals of my beats and just rhymed over it. This one I actually got involved and did the whole thing," said C.L. Smooth's longtime group partner.

In the interview, Pete Rock also updated fans on his long-discussed collaborative "battle album" with friend and fellow late '80s peer DJ Premier. "It’s in the works. I’m like three or four [songs] deep into it so far. I got a lot of projects on the table that I can’t wait to get started on."
