Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 7/28/2013

YMCMB's "Rich Gang" reaches higher on the charts than Cash Money's last compilation, as the label has four albums on the Top 200, from Drake, Lil Wayne, Ace Hood and the Rich Gang clique.

Jay-Z was within 20,000 units of holding the #1 title for the third straight week with Magna Carta Holy Grail. Instead, he was challenged by Pop princess Selena Gomez, whose Stars Dance owned the charts this week.

With Jigga at #2, the crucial addition in the week came from his on-again, off-again friends and nemeses at Cash Money/Young Money Records. YMCMB released their first compilation in over a decade with Rich Gang. The crew project grabbed a Top 10 debut, as a true coming out party for the labels' newer acts such as Busta Rhymes, Limp Bizkit and former No Limit Records rival, Mystikal.

Wu-Tang Clan member U-God missed the Top 200 with his latest, Keynote Speaker, which released on RZA's Soul Temple Records. Additionally, Chamillionaire's self-released Reign Fall EP also missed the 2,200-unit threshold to hit the Top 200 this week.

YMCMB Is One Rich Gang

Bryan "Birdman" Williams & Ronald "Slim" Williams' Cash Money Records released Baller Blockin' in 2000. The soundtrack featured the label's acts and close associates. Almost 13 years later, the label (along with Lil Wayne's Young Money Records) released their latest compilation, Rich Gang. Ironically, Wayne and Birdman are the only carryovers between the two releases.

Among YMCMB's "friends," included Future, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar and French Montana. The album was also integral to label acts who have yet to release solo albums: Bow Wow, Detail, Caskey, Gudda Gudda, Cory Gunz and YM president Mack Maine. Notably absent from the effort is Drake, who Nicki Minaj cryptically spoke about, in regards to his relationship with the label he's released three retail solo LPs.

Rich Gang, which includes "Paint Tha Town," scanned nearly 25,000 units, appearing in the Top 10. This out-performed Baller Blockin', an album that would achieve gold certification the year it was released.

Cash Money Is An Army, Better Yet A Navy

Rich Gang marked the second consecutive Top 10 debut for Cash Money Records. Last week, the label's newly-acquired Ace Hood released Trials & Tribulations to career-best chart positions and first-week sales amidst the success of "Bugatti." In its sophomore week, the former Def Jam Records artist's fourth album fell 22 spots, selling over 10,000 units in its second week.

Also on the charts from the YMCMB family is Drake's double-platinum Take Care (#166), and Lil Wayne's gold-certified, I Am Not A Human Being II (#69). With Jay Sean's Neon release yesterday (July 6), the label has brought six projects to retail in 2013.

My coder is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the costs. But he's tryiong none the less. I've been using Movable-type on a number of websites for about a year and am anxious about switching to another platform. I have heard fantastic things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!

Will Kendrick have 10 years in the game like Ross has? Not even close.
    • Anonymous
He'll last longer than Ross and will make better records, Ross dickrider.

What makes you think he won't? If an ex correctional officer who been exposed as a lying fraud can get this far why wouldn't Kendrick? He's actually creative and released a critically acclaimed platinum album in a time when no one else is going plat. Lamar ain't going anywhere. Ross will be dead of a stroke or a heart attack by the time Kendrick is Ross's age.

Jay Z went gold in one week, and will easily outsell Kendrick when it's all over.

As an accountant for YMCMB I can confirm that rich gang is going to be the highest selling compiliation album of the decade. we beat out good music and MMG. We have the highest quality of tracks. each with its perfection and we did not even need drake! if he leaves YMCMB his album will bomb.

A hip hop magazine such as this (HIPHOPDX) should respect the hustle of Jigga and include thos Samsung numbers, I expect mainstream not to get it, but OUR own kind should understand we get how we can get it! #newrules

You YMCMB haters are fucking idiots. Because Im an accountant for Cash Money Records, I spend a lot of time with Birdman. What some of you may not know is Michael Jackson was planning on signing to YMCMB at the time of his death. He had even changed his stage name to Mic Jackin. He was planning on releasing 2 Major albums of hard hitting Trap shit, one a collaborative album with Lil Wayne titled Trap Kids. Since Michaels demise Cash Money records have actually teamed up with NASA and are creating a Global headquarters in Space and on the Moon. The reason for this is to create a new genre of hiphop called Zero Gravity Rap. Lil Wayne was hospitalized because during his first zero gravity rap training session he rapped so hard he created a Blackhole that nearly engulfed him. The universe was not ready for his talent so it tried to take him, luckily all it got was his chain and a couple of Big Mac vouchers. All you haters are gonna be sorry soon YMCMB will be so big it will have its own gravitational pull meaning you will be drawn into it no matter what you do.

you posted this at 4 in the morning...but yea man that sucks about the chain and the big mac vouchers though
