Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are the most nominated performers for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, MTV announced today (July 17). Each earned six nods apiece. Other artists from the Hip Hop community with multiple nominations are Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Robin Thicke and The Weeknd.

Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” video, off his The 20/20 Experience album, is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Pop Video and Best Editing, while his visuals for “Suit & Tie” with Jay-Z, is up for Best Collaboration and Best Direction. 

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, are vying for the grand prize that is the Video of the Year award for their hit “Thrift Shop,” while their “Can’t Hold Us” clip is up for the Best Hip Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing. The Seattle duo’s equality anthem “Same Love” is nominated for Best Video with a Social Message.

Kendrick Lamar and Drake are two of the most nominated rappers for the 2013 VMAs. Both artists received nods in the Best Hip Hop video category. Drake’s “Started From The Bottom” is up for the honor, as is Kendrick’s “Swimming Pools.” Both rappers are also nominated in the category again for their work on A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin’ Problems,” which also features 2 Chainz. K. Dot’s “Swimming Pools” is also a contender for the Male Video of the Year award.

MTV has been presenting recording artists “Moonman” trophies for outstanding music videos in 1984.
