Brazilian Rapper MC Daleste Shot & Killed During Live Performance
UPDATE: MC Daleste's father reacts to his son's murder. He claims that jealous ones envy, and that no matter, Daleste remains a king at his craft.
Brazilian Rapper MC Daleste has died after being shot in the abdomen on Saturday (July 6) night.
Daleste, real name Daniel Pellegrine, was performing in the city of Campinas when a bullet struck him, reports Billboard.
The rapper fell back "in a sitting position" before others came to his aid.
Daleste was performing at a public housing building in the neighborhood of San Martin.
He died early Sunday after being brought to a nearby hospital.
No information has been released regarding suspects or arrests at this time.
MC Daleste was described as being part of the "Ostentatious Funk" scene, centered in Sao Paulo. The music is described as "a bling-obsessed and violent brand of Rap over looped beats."
"This is one more sad event in a long history of urban violence in Brazil," said Sao Paulo native Béco Dranoff, a New York-based deejay and producer. "Music should be the peaceful medium that connects us all for good times and for change."
Footage of the shooting was captured. Campinas police told Brazilian Media that the videos are the focus of the investigation.
Daleste was 20 years old.
HipHopDX extends its condolences to the family and friends of MC Daleste.
