Freddie Gibbs Confirms Receiving Death Threats Following Young Jeezy Fallout
Freddie Gibbs refers to Young Jeezy as "a fraud," says the rapper has led fans on for the past 10 years.
The falling out between Gary, Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs and CTE founder Young Jeezy continues, with Gibbs sharing his latest thoughts on Jeezy with MTV News. The ESGN rapper even spoke on receiving death threats via Twitter following the various comments he made about the former Boyz N Da Hood member.
Additionally, Gibbs referred to Jeezy as a “fraud” and expressed his sympathy for fans who he says have been “buying in to” the rapper for the past decade.
“Yeah, death threats. Death threats,” Gibbs revealed. “It’s a lot of people—Aye man, I know it hurts you to hear your favorite rapper’s a fraud. It ain’t my fault. It’s something you been buying in to for the last 10 years. I know it breaks your heart, but I got to break it to ya.”
The falling out between Jeezy and Gibbs first occurred when Gibbs left CTE late last year. Shortly after his departure from the label, he began to speak on the reason behind the move citing differences with Young Jeezy and also stating that it was not an “amicable” split.
Gibbs further commented on his differences with the CTE leader who he says provided nothing but “fake and empty promises.”
“I messed with it. That was the music I was vibing to and I wanted to add to it, but it was just a lot of like—I started seeing the fake and the empty promises and all of that stuff,” said the rapper. “And I just didn’t want to be around it no more. You know what I mean? It’s a whole lot. It’s a book worth of stuff that I could go into, in them two years that was I was there. That I saw. Thing that’ll make you look at your favorite rapper in a different way.”
Despite Gibbs’ vocalness on the matter, Jeezy has remained relatively silent. A statement from Jeezy dating back to December of last year referred to the Midwest spitter as “a talented artist” and wished “him the best in his career.”
Freddie Gibbs is currently preparing for the release of his ESGN album, which is due out on July 9.
