Pepsi’s eight episode webseries, The Road To Summer Jam series recently premiered on HOT97, providing viewers with an exclusive behind the scenes look at what it takes to produce one of the world’s largest Hip Hop concerts.

This mini documentary will give insight into what HOT 97 executives Ebro Darden (Programming Director) and Donyshia Benjamin (Marketing Director) as well as on-air personality, DJ Enuff and other employees endure each year when producing the summer showcase. Sponsored by Pepsi, the 20th annual HOT97 Summer Jam culminates at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, June 2.

“With HOT97’s Summer Jam, it’s all hands on deck,” said Donyshia Benjamin in the series trailer. “The day after our Summer Jam concert we start working on the next year. We work on Summer Jam 365 days a year and seven days a week. We eat, sleep and drink HOT97 Summer Jam.”

The first episode of Pepsi’s The Road To Summer Jam introduces some of the central figures behind the festival as well as comments from artists Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa and Chris Brown. The theme of this year’s Summer Jam is “Hip Hop’s biggest show.”

Historically, some of Rap’s most talked-about moments have taken place during HOT97 Summer Jam. In 2001, Jay-Z famously displayed an image of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy in a leotard before baiting Nas into one of the most storied lyrical feuds in Hip Hop history. The two legendary emcees have since reconciled their differences and collaborated on “Black Republicans” on Nas’ loose concept album Hip Hop Is Dead. Rick Ross, Lauryn Hill, Ma$e, Waka Flocka Flame have all performed at previous Summer Jams.

This year’s Summer Jam performers include Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Kid Ink, A$AP Ferg, Troy Ave, Smoke DZA, Vinnie Cha$e, Bodega Bamz and Radamiz (Festival Village Bill). Additional lineup announcements are expected.
