Thanks to a judge moving her sentencing date, Lauryn Hill may be able to avoid prison.

TMZ reports that Hill was originally scheduled to be sentenced on Monday (April 22) after pleading guilty to tax evasion.

However, the sentencing was moved to May 6 to give Hill an opportunity to repay a portion of her $968,000 tax debt.

The rapper/actress’ attorney says that Hill has signed a million-dollar recording deal with Sony, and that she plans to take out a $650,000 loan to help pay off the bill.

Hill potentially faces several years in prison, though her attorneys hope for probation.

Last week, Lauryn claimed that threats on her family caused the former Fugees member to not pay her taxes.
