Senator Marco Rubio Deems Jay-Z & Beyonce's Cuba Trip "Hypocritical"

Marco Rubio questions Jay-Z's praise of Che Guevara, continues to criticize the rapper's trip to Cuba.

Superstar couple Jay-Z and Beyonce are continuing to face criticism from politicians thanks to an anniversary trip they took to Havana, Cuba earlier in the month, with Florida Senator Marco Rubio serving as the most vocal of critics.

Last week, Rubio demanded an explanation for the couple’s controversial trip from President Barack Obama and he recently voiced his opinion on the trip during a broadcast of CNN’s State Of The Union.

“Quite frankly, I think it’s hypocritical of the people who took that trip, because they didn’t go down there and meet with some of the people that are actually in trouble today,” said Rubio, according to AllHipHop.com.

Rubio, who is Cuban American, went on to state that the couple should have taken time to visit those in the country who are “suffering” and even criticized Jay-Z for his lyrical praise of Argentinian revolutionary Che Guevara.

“There’s a Hip Hop artist in Cuba who is on a hunger strike and has been persecuted because he has political lyrics in his songs,” Rubio explained. “If they really wanted to know what was going on in Cuba, they should have met with some of the people that are suffering there, not simply smoke cigars and take a stroll down the street…One of [Jay-Z's] heroes is Che Guevara. Che Guevara was a racist that wrote extensively about the superiority of white Europeans over people of African descent, so he should inform himself on the guy that he’s propping up.”

Although both Jay-Z and Beyonce have remained relatively quiet when it comes to the controversy surrounding their trip, Jay-Z did address critics on his newest record, “Open Letter.”
