R.A. The Rugged Man Makes "Sam Peckinpah," Thanked By Late Director's Family

R.A. The Rugged Man's latest track with Vinnie Paz, Sadat X gets appreciation from the family of the great, late film director it is named after.

Later this month, Long Island, New York emcee R.A. The Rugged Man will release his sophomore studio album, Legends Never Die. The April 30 Nature Sounds Records release includes a Vinnie Paz and Sadat X-featured collaboration, "Sam Peckinpah." The song is named after and inspired by the late director of violent thrillers such as Straw Dogs, The Getaway, Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia and The Wild Bunch. Peckinpah, who battled drug and alcohol addiction for much of his storied career, died if heart failure in 1984.

Today, Nature Sounds revealed that Peckinpah's grandson, Sam Dennis, contacted the former Jive Records sensation via Twitter with the following praises. R.A. and the label shared the following correspondence: "Respect from the Peckinpah family. I signed up for Twitter to say what's up after I read the tracklist for your new album. I've been a fan of your work for a minute and I got my little brother to give hip hop a chance after I played him 'Lessons.' You've earned even more respect from me by knowing your shit about boxing and film, two things that make up every day of my life. You are respected and admired by members of his family, and I thought you should know. My mom and brother Geoff say what's up too. If you want some good Peckinpah true history, send me an e-mail. It's great to see a legend pay homage to my grandfather after those cunts remade Straw Dogs. Salute."

According to R.A., who has worked with the both Brand Nubian emcee and Jedi Mind Tricks emcee previously, the song was to be called, "Deadly Companions," a film Peckinpah directed. "But then I said 'Fuck it, let's just name the song Sam Peckinpah,'" said R.A. in a statement. "Bringing it back to the '90s when I randomly named that other Rawkus [Records] joint [after another film director], 'Stanley Kubrick'."

R.A. The Rugged Man's Legends Never Die releases on April 30.
