DX News Bits: MC Eiht Prepares EP, Block Starz Music Launches New Website, Rise-Ascend & Direction Lead Petition
MC Eiht is releasing a new EP, Block Starz Music launches a new website, and Rise-Ascend & Direction start a new petition.
With a stellar guest verse on Kendrick Lamar's "m.A.A.d City," Compton legend MC Eiht reminded listeners where the CPT got its style. Now, according to a recent press release, the Compton's Most Wanted alum is preparing to drop his newest EP.
This December 31, MC Eiht will release his latest EP Keep It Hood via BlueStamp Music. The EP, Eiht's first solo effort since 2007's Representin', is produced by Brenk Sinatra and boasts the single "The Reign," featuring DJ Premier.
Keep It Hood will precede Eiht's fourteenth full length solo LP Which Way Iz West, due out this spring 2013.
In other news, it looks like indie label Block Starz Music will be going through a number of reorganizations in the new year. In addition to a new website URL, the famed Indiana imprint will be parting ways with its CEO.
In a recent press release, Block Starz's founder Bayer Mack announced that the firm's German CEO Kai Denninger will be parting ways with the company effective immediately. Mack also revealed that Block Starz's website URL has changed to BlockStarz.TV, which will expand its focus to showing more independent music videos and original web series.
“Kai Denninger will no longer be with the company,” said Mack. “Kai was instrumental in helping us build the Block Starz Music brand. He will be greatly missed and we wish him nothing but the best in all his future endeavors.”
BlockStarz.TV's senior Vice President of Music and Television Peppy Johnson added, "Artists and projects signed to Block Starz Music will always take precedent, but our new website and personnel changes will allow us to collaborate with and showcase a wider range of talent. The goal for our company's next four years is to make BlockStarz.TV a leading video distribution outlet for all forms of independent entertainment producers."
Finally, Rise-Ascend and Direction are spearheading a new petition to stop the Chinese government's practice of organ harvesting, and the duo is looking for the Hip Hop community's support.
The duo has launched a new petition through the official White House website to stop the Chinese government's practice using imprisoned Fulan Gong practitioners as living organ donors. The petition requires at least 25,000 signatures before the White House officially responds to it.
“The vicious practice of organ harvesting taking place in China today is certainly a crime against humanity and something that everyone should be aware of," Rise-Ascend explained in an exclusive statement to DX. "That said, I don’t think many people would underestimate the power of the youth’s voice and the global hip-hop communities potential to quickly raise awareness about this important issue. I only hope that we can stand up as one and show the world that the killing of innocent people and the selling of their internal organs on the black market is something that our generation will absolutely not tolerate. This is in fact something that can save lives.”
Listeners can sign the petition over at the White House's website.
