Despite numerous reports that good kid, m.A.A.d city was expected to feature Lady Gaga, many fans were surprised when the pop singer’s name wasn’t mentioned in the final tracklist. Now, in an exclusive interview with XXL, Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar reacts to Gaga releasing the original version of “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” featuring her hook.

K. Dot said that he was pleasantly surprised to see that Gaga ended up releasing the track and not keeping it in her personal stash. He added that he was happy that she did leak it, as it was a sign that she was confident in the strength of their work together.

“I didn’t even know she was gonna put that out,” he said. “That was a surprise. I thought she was gonna hold that in the can. I was cool with it. It showed people we wasn’t playin’ with it; we was actually in the studio vibing out when we recorded. For her to put it out even undone, that says a lot. That says she’s confident not only about her work, but my work.”
