It's been over a decade since the fabled Detox was supposed to hit stores, and at this rate, it looks like fans will have to wait another decade before Dr. Dre is ready to release it. Now, in a recent interview with Power 98 FM, Dre's protege Kendrick Lamar speaks on the album.
Lamar, who was promoting his own impending LP good kid, m.A.A.d city, couldn't give a timetable on Detox's release. Rather, the Compton emcee said that when Dre's ready to drop it, that's when it'll be released.
“Dre is definitely a perfectionist,” he said. “I’m going to say this, y’all will get it when you get it. When he feels it’s time, then it’s time.”
Kendrick also spoke on his latest single off his widely anticipated studio debut titled "Swimming Pools (Drank)." He explained that the song was inspired by growing up in a household where there were a lot of parties in which he witnessed both the positive and negative effects of alcohol.
"['Swimming Pools'] really just comes from the experience of being in a household where there's a lot of alcohol," he explained. "I was growing up in a household where we had lots of house parties and stuff like that, just taking the lifestyle and putting it into a song and getting advice out there [that] you can be a drunk, or you can drink casually.”
