Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 7/1/2012

Maybach Music Group's "Self Made Vol. 2" nearly doubles their 2011 first-week performance of "Self Made Vol. 1," as Future and "Pluto" soar back up in the rankings.

Hip Hop returned to the Top 10 last week, courtesy of Rick Ross' second Maybach Music Group compilation in as many years. The Warner Bros. Records-backed Self Made, Volume 2 sold just under 100,000 first-week units, scoring the revamped collective of Ross, Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley and Omarion a #4. Thirty-thousand units behind, at #5, R. Kelly's Write Me Back was another debut this week. The veteran Chicago R&B singer did not include rappers on this RCA Records project, a follow-up to 2010's Love Letter.

Maybach Music Group Is Still Self-Made

Rick Ross' collective added two new artists to the fold from 2011's Self Made, Volume 1. After Pill left the group reportedly due to a contract with Warner, Ohio's Stalley and former B2K singer Omarion were added to the MMG collective. Gunplay, who like Ross, is a Def Jam Records artist, was also prominently featured. Guests on the second outing include Kendrick Lamar, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa and Bun B. Volume 2 nearly doubled the approximately 59,000 copies Self Made Volume 1 scanned last May.

Future Gains 26 Spots With Pluto

One of the most successful debut Rap artists of 2012, Dungeon Family affiliate Future and his album Pluto  saw a strong rankings bump in the last week. The Epic Records release climbed 26 spots, backed by mainstream single "Same Damn Time." The album features Drake, T.I. and Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J.
