Kid Cudi A No-Show At Fifth Annual Roots Picnic, Explains Absence

The Roots play on as surprise guests Freeway, Skillz and Jakk Frost take the stage in an unexplained absence from Kid Cudi in day two of the 2012 Roots Picnic.

The day-two headliner at the 5th Annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania did not appear on stage. Fans learned that Cleveland, Ohio emcee Kid Cudi would not appear tonight (June 3) as promised, by an announcement from Roots emcee Black Thought. Following a rain-delayed set by Rakim featuring The Roots, Thought asked fans if they wanted the night to end at approximately 9:30 pm, or if the events hosts should continue on some "hometown hero shit."

Cheers prompted The Roots to perform a set, with appearances by Freeway, Skillz and Jakk Frost. The band, along with the guests performed an additional hour to thousands of fans, including "The Seed 2.0," and other hits.

The evening affair also featured performances from Diplo, Major Lazer, Chill Moody and others.

Kid Cudi has yet to give a statement, though Roots band-leader ?uestlove apologized on Twitter for the G.O.O.D. Music emcee/singer's absence.

The other East Coast show of the night, Summer Jam, reportedly lost its headliner in Nicki Minaj.

He also wrote about the incident on his Tumblr, posting an extended message that said that his private jet was to blame for his absecne.

“I wanna apologize to everyone who came out the Roots Picnic today. Im really bummed out about not being able to come through for yall. Its not my style to flake or be a no show, so ima let everyone know right now what happened. The PJ I was on departed on time. 30mins into the flight the pilots noticed they smelled smoke in the cockpit of the plane and came back to tell us we had to make an emergency stop and land immediately. The closest city was Vegas and we landed there safely. While grounded, we scrambled to get a brand new plane in time but it just couldnt work. With actually waitin on the next plane to land then de plane and then fuel wouldve had me in town around 1am maybe later at that point. The events that took place were out of my control, but either way, what happened was some bullshit and im mad. I cant front im mad. Ive had a shitty week and i was lookin forward to being around that energy. It really sux, and Iam very very sorry to all. To The Roots, bravo with another successful picnic otherwise. Im sure everyone had fun with all the other dope acts on the bill. Mad love to all, and thank U for your understanding and concern. Scott”
