G. Dep Convicted Of Murder In 1993 New York City Shooting

    G. Dep has been convicted of murder for shooting and killing a man while robbing him at gunpoint in 1993.

According to The Washington Post, the former Bad Boy Records artist faces at least 15-years-to-life for slaying the man, believed to be 32-year-old John Henkel. Upon hearing the verdict, G. Dep hugged his lawyer, Anthony Ricco.

“He has a conscience and a heart, and his conscience and his heart brought him to where he is today,” said Ricco. “He’s probably making the most powerful statement a rapper of his era can make, which is to be accountable and to do the right thing.”

Prosecutors viewed G. Dep, who confessed to the murder years later, as a threat. “Eighteen years ago, the defendant made a calculated decision to steal from, shoot, and kill an innocent person on the street,” said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.

    G. Dep will be sentenced on May 8th. HipHopDX will keep you updated.

    1. Dumbass what good are you gonna do the world sitting in a jail cell, you could have made your peace with it by helping the community, now what are you doing, sitting in jail while your son gets to grow up without a father

      1. I don’t think its got anything it do with the community. I think it has to do with making peace with oneself…. the only way to make peace with yourself is to abide by what you believe in…. in this case, he believes in accountability for his actions. It’s sad he is going away for a while but I commend him for his actions

      2. ^^^^^^

Yeah, good for him, I hope sitting in jail cell for 15 makes him feel better

But how is he gonna feel when his son starts getting into the same kind of bullshit, running the streets with a single mother trying to support the family, learning about life from Dealers & Thugs because his father isnt there to show him the way

He would have been doing the world more service by trying to make a change, now he’s just one more brother in the system

    2. Damn, I hate that for Dep but I respect what he did. I always thought dude was slept on as an MC. I still pull out “Child Of The Ghetto” from time to time. I might get a lot of flack for this but I think he’s better than every MC that came out of Harlem except Big L and in some cases, I’d take Dep over even L. My thoughts and prayers go to him and his family and to the victim’s family as well. Hopefully, they feel a sense of closure.

    3. “Hes probably making the most powerful statement a rapper of his era can make, which is to be accountable and to do the right thing. Go to hell.
