Papoose Calls Remy Ma An Inspiration And Talks "Law Library" Series

Brooklyn's Papoose says his wife's incarceration "inspires him to do better" and he gives the motivation behind his "Law Library" series.

At the height of his popularity, Papoose was holding down magazine covers and signing what was rumored to be a $1.5 million deal with Jive Records. Since then the Brooklyn emcee has kept a rather low profile opting to support his incarcerated wife, Remy Ma and dropping independent projects. In an interview with Good Fella Media, Papoose revealed that Remy’s incarceration hasn’t been a hindrance to his career.

“It don’t mess with me at all,” Papoose explained. “It actually inspires me. It inspires me to do better, because that could be me in that situation. It could be you or anybody living in this country. None of us are exempt from that; it could happen to any one of us. Everybody that’s incarcerated is not guilty.”

It turns out that educating listeners on the ins and outs of the penal code has been a subject near and dear to Papoose’s heart long before his involvement with the former Terror Squad member. It essentially led to him creating his signature “Law Library” series.

“I’ve been through a lot in my life and lost a lot of family members and people I love to the judicial system,” Papoose said. “So just knowing that you going to that law library and analyzing your case can be the difference between you doing five to ten years or coming home—that’s what inspired me to make them records. As I’m reading it and looking at it, I’m passing on the knowledge to certain family members and certain friends. I’m like, ‘I need to give this to the world and let them hear it.’”

The full interview, which also features Papoose’s thoughts on the current crop of emcees and the concept of rapper beef can be seen below.
