Singer Erykah Badu will no longer be gracing the stage at an event in Malaysia this week all because of a temporary tattoo the singer was seen wearing.

According to the New York Daily News, Badu’s appearance was canceled by a government committee once a picture of the singer with a temporary tattoo on her shoulder with the Arabic word for “Allah” was brought to their attention.

A statement from Malaysian Information Minister Rais Yatim states that the picture of Badu’s tattoo “triggered public criticism that could jeopardize national security and cause a negative impact to the government’s image.”

The singer is currently in Malaysia at this time and the managing director of the show’s Malaysian organizer hopes the decision will be reversed, but as of now Badu is still banned from performing at the event.

Although a singer hasn’t been banned from performing in Malaysia in quite some time, performers including Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani have all been asked to cover up while performing.
