Kendrick Lamar Talks Working With Pharrell, May Work With Q-Tip

K.Dot talks about working with Skateboard P and says a Q-Tip collab may be in the future.

Few artists have the level of buzz for a single project as Kendrick Lamar does for his upcoming debut LP. Last July, DX reported that Compton up-and-comer had hit the studio with producer Pharrell to work on some tunes that may end up on his album. Now, K.Dot opens up about his in-studio experiences with the Star Trak maestro.

According to a recent interview with Billboard, Kendrick and Skateboard P hit studio the studio for two days and recorded a total of six songs. Lamar - who's worked extensively with Dr. Dre - said that it was impressive to see Pharrell build an entire beat from scratch right before his eyes.

"Pharrell really does this music like this is his first time in the studio. He still got that hunger," he said. "He's one of the producers that pulls out his keyboard and pulls up the session and make a crazy beat right front of you. We knocked out six records in two days. Just by off the vibin' [and] creating from scratch. To hear all the music that he's making and reminisce [of] all the music that I love to listen to, he's making it right in front of me now is a crazy feeling."

K.Dot also indicated that he may be working with A Tribe Called Quest emcee and producer Q-Tip. He explained that while the two haven't exactly hit the studio together yet, there is some chance that he and Tip may collaborate in the future.

"We ain't lock in on the music side yet. Sometimes its best to feel the energy first before you go in the lab with a person," he noted.
