Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi speak with VH1 for the first time as a group in almost 14 years.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of their second LP The Low End Theory, A Tribe Called Quest has reunited to reflect on the creation of the classic album.
Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White spoke with VH1 about the album, weighing in on its creation. “It was a dope time,” says Q-Tip of the time around when the album was released in September 1991. “N.W.A. was crushing it, and I just remember being influenced by that, how it sounded sonically.”
Jarobi spoke on how he wasn’t really present on the album but was still a part of the group. “To be totally honest with you, I was always around. Especially during the recording processes… I think that’s probably where my value was. I just wasn’t on camera and doing press and interviews,” he said.
