JYoung The General Wants Your Vote, Read His A3C

The Blat Pack emcee caught the attention of DX with his '11 South By Southwest performance, now read why the Michigan native claims he's deserving of an expenses-paid trip to rock in Atlanta.

One of the five finalists in HipHopDX & A3C's "Pick 3" Contest is DXnext alum and Michigan emcee JYoung The General. In a year with a break-out South By Southwest performance alongside his homestate compadres, Young hopes to rock another key stage at Atlanta, Georgia's A3C.

JYoung spoke passionately about his purpose, and provided some background in chances of scoring your vote to get him there.

HipHopDX: Tell us a little bit about what 2011 has been about for this point in your career...

JYoung The General: 2011 has been a steadfast year in building my brand and experiencing things I'd never been a part of before in this industry. In January I went on my first tour with my BLAT! co-conspirator P.H.I.L.T.H.Y., I performed at the Michigan Made showcase at South by Southwest alongside Danny Brown and One.Be.Lo. I released Black History Year 2, a successful follow up to the first project with Nick Speed and worked with a lot of fellow Michigan artists I've looked up to for years. I stated back in March my next big goal was to make it to A3C and rock Atlanta out and I'm confident the support of my fans matches the intensity I'm going to bring to the stage.

DX: What would an A3C showcase appearance do for you, your career?

JYoung The General: [It] increases my visibility and networking, and more importantly helps me walk the walk when I say I'm one of the premier young entertainers only missing that big break to show I can compete with the upper echelon of music superstars.

DX: What makes your performances and performance style unique?

JYoung The General: I give the same type of intensity regardless of the crowd and the number. If I had to perform for the chairs in an empty arena, I'd somehow give the chair the ability to tell the next person that sits in it that I rocked the hell out the venue the night before. I don't take days off on stage, and anyone who's been to a JYoung The General show knows that I have a unique sound and the ability to relate that sound to the crowd. That is my gift.

DX: To someone new to your music, what can you say or show that is convincing to vote for?

JYoung The General: I'm dedicated but human. People are looking for music that can play to the emotions of the moment. So while I'm the same guy who can get the crowd involved with a performance, I'm also the same guy who once blew a stage dive and still finished my verse after I peeled myself off the bar floor. Every show, every song is different and my personality shines through each time. Turn intrigue into belief by voting for me and seeing me in person.
