Ish (f/k/a Butterfly) of 1990s New York Hip Hop-Jazz collective is emerging with a new band, Shabazz Palaces. The group, with Ish as a leader will release Black Up on June 28. The group had a self-released project in 2009. The new release will come through Sub Pop Records, the famed onetime home to acts such as Nirvana, The Postal Service and Fleet Foxes. Previously, Ish was in the group Cherrywine.

Since their 1992 hit “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat),” the trio of Digable Planets released three albums, most recently 2005’s Beyond The Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicles. Both Doodlebug and Ladybug Mecca have also pursued solo endeavors.
