CJ Wallace Names "Machine Gun Funk" as His Favorite Biggie Song
Biggie's son CJ talks about his favorite song by his late father and his acting career.
XXL.com recently caught up with the Notorious B.I.G.'s son CJ Wallace to discuss his foray into film, most recently in the Will Ferrell vechicle Everything Must Go. During the interview, the 14-year-old actor talked about his father's musical legacy, saying that his favorite personal track from his late father's discography is "Machine Gun Funk" off Biggie's '94 debut Ready to Die. He also added that one of his favorite new artists is OFWGKTA's Tyler, the Creator.
"'Machine Gun Funk' is probably one of my favorites [of my dad's music]," he said. "I remember the first time I heard it I was in the car driving in L.A. and it gave me the best feeling ever...I’m starting to listen to Tyler, the Creator a lot. [OFWGKTA is] really cool. I like what they’re about. They’re real different and hard to understand. They’re cool."
Wallace also discussed how he first got into acting at such a young age. He said that his first real foray into the business was with his debut role as the young Christopher Wallace in Notorious. He added that while he was at first resistent to try acting, he's really come to enjoy seeing the end product of a film.
"[The experience of acting] was a little different," he said. "At first, I didn’t want to be an actor. My grandma is the one who told me that I should be my dad in Notorious. 'You should do it; it would probably be easy for you,' she said. I did it and I took a bigger interest in acting. I took advantage of the opportunity and I found out I was really good at it...It’s really surreal [to see yourself on screen] especially when you’re around friends and family. It’s a great feeling to feel that you accomplished something so big like that. It sounds real cheesy but it feels like a dream."
Everything Must Go is set for a limited release this May 13. Wallace can be seen in the trailer for the film below.
