Rick Ross Says That He Hopes To Work With Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie’s music has been embraced by Hip Hop, from Commodores samples in hits like Beastie Boys’ “Hey Ladies” and Eric B. & Rakim’s “Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em” to interpolations in R. Kelly’s “Fiesta.” Although last year’s “We Are The World 25 For Haiti” found Richie conducting sung vocals from emcee/singer Wyclef Jean, Lionel has never officially released material with a Hip Hop artist, and Miami, Florida’s Rick Ross recently revealed that he hopes to be the first.

“When I think of great music, I don’t categorize it. It’s just music. My favorite album is [Michael Jackson’s] Thriller album; that’s why I named my second album Trilla,” began Ross, speaking with Mikey T The Moviestar in a video interview. “When I think of great artists [a list of names] comes to mind – those are the artists that Hip Hop hasn’t collaborated with. There’s a very fine line between [those worlds]. I would love to be one of the first [Hip Hop] artists to collaborate with a legend such as Lionel Richie on a record that I feel the world would accept.”

    1. One hit wonders used to be frowned upon, you didn’t want to be that yet you became everyone’s guilty pleasure. Hip-hop more than ever sounds like an eternal one-hit wonder, and yet somehow artists keep on getting hits. Or are they really hits, is the idea of a “hit artist” in 2011 just a myth, or as Neil Bogart once said, if you dress the part, everyone believes in the part and role you portray? This sounds exactly like that.

Everyone is piggybacking one another, and yet it’s only a matter of time before someone does a song with Air Supply or Kenny G.

The idea of this collaboration makes me queasy like Monday morning. If it works, more power to them, maybe Rick Ro$$ will surprise us. Then again, most likely not.

    2. I dont think these new rappers are bright enough to understand that the old school musicians have no respect for what todays rappers do. Lionel Richie sings songs for world peace/love and Rick Ross raps fairytales about moving coke and his nights in the strip clubs throwing money/liquor on women. First Lil B says he wants to get Prince for an album and now this…

    3. Ross is probably tied with Lil B and Soulja Boy for worst rapper dead or alive. He also should really consider weight watchers, he looks like an elephant.

    4. He doesn’t deserve to work with a legend in my opinion. I don’t see the fascination with Rick Ross anyway. I think he sucks. I don’t care what all you think. But, it seems many people agree with me.

      1. No, fuck u! nobody agrees with u! Ross has always proved himself with every Album! Get a life and stop hating on someone who actually has the opportunity to catch a legend like Lionel Richies attention.

      2. Yea, u prolly are the shit brick who put that same comment there…. or ure sucking that persons dick or he is sucking yours!

    5. Say what you want, but Ross has proved himself worthy of accolade with every album he’s released so far, and each one has been better musically than the previous…

I think he knows his music, and his ability or hunger to learn and push himself even further in the art is amazing…

Imagine that Maybach Music III had a full orchestra playing in the background… You gotta love a man that pushes the boundaries of hip hop and desires to find new avenues to better the art… and nothing is better than collaborating with a legend… Em did in with Elton john and we all applauded him, So why not Ross… I think we should all support him rather than hate on him…

I mean, even the other established artists are lining up to work with him, meaning there must be something there that they see… From Kanye, to John Legend, to Nas, To Jada Kiss, to Raphael Saadiq, To Ceelo Brown? Plus all the products that he put put with the aforementioned artists were amazing…

Let’s not deny ourselves good music because we want to keep it ‘real’!!! Ross is the only one who has improved with every album… Something every rapper has struggled to do, even you favorite rapper…

    7. rick ross releases are always about bs but if you listen to his albums he speaks on a lot more than the drug kingpin fairy tales and even though i dont care for that type of content imo his talent is undeniable. lyrically he’s one of the best out right, musically he’s at the top of the list.. he picks the best beats. call it what you want but dude has talent and he’s no different than most of these other rappers speaking on a bunch of bullshyt…
