In the fourteen years since his untimely death, a lot has been written about the life and times of Tupac Shakur. No release date has been set just yet, but former Vibe senior writer Kevin Powell will write Tupac Shakur: The Authorized Biography.

Unlike other books written about Pac, this one has the full support of his mother and executor of his estate, Afeni Shakur. “Kevin Powell is doing this Tupac Shakur biography with my full blessings,” Afeni said. “I trust him and his history of documenting my son’s life, and I know he will do the book from his heart.”

During his time at Vibe Magazine, Powell worked with Pac a number of times writing in-depth pieces. “Our relationship began when I documented his journey while at Vibe in the 1990s. And I will never forget being there at that Las Vegas hospital when Tupac’s death was announced,” Powell stated. “He remains, all these years later, one of the most dynamic and complicated humans I’ve ever encountered. I will present Tupac as the very whole and multi-layered being he was, as I remember well his asking me, quite prophetically, to be Alex Haley to his Malcolm X.”

“It’s an honor to write what will be the definitive biography on the life and times of Tupac Shakur, one of the greatest icons in hip hop and pop culture history,” Powell continued. Tupac Shakur: The Authorized Biography will be distributed by publisher Simon & Schuster.

In other Tupac news, another documentary, Tupac: Uncensored & Uncut, will come out on January 25.
