For many rappers, serving a bid in the bing has often proved to be a key vantage point with regards to selling records. And with his most recent effort I Am Not a Human Being topping Billboard’s charts, Young Money megastar Lil Wayne is no exception. Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Weezy F. Baby is the first artist in over 15 years to have an album reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart – a feat that was last accomplished by 2Pac.

I Am Not A Human Being dropped this past September 27 in a digital only format, garnering 110,000 downloads. Yet it wasn’t until the CD version of the album hit shelves on October 12 that Wayne was able to grasp the number one spot on the Billboard 200. It has since gone on to sell 324,000 units as of October 24. Like Wayne, 2Pac enjoyed enormous amounts of success while behind bars, with his 1995 album Me Against the World spending four weeks at number one and selling 1.5 million copies upon its release.

As DX reported this weekend, although Lil Wayne is scheduled to be released this Thursday after 8 months in Riker’s Island for a gun charge, the New Orleans emcee will be heading back to court this Friday. DX will keep you updated as more details about Weezy’s release come to light.
