Speaking with MTV News recently mixtape impresario DJ Drama commented on the status of the Aphilliates, the DJ collective he helped found along with Don Cannon and DJ Sense. While acknowledging that he no was no longer an active participant in the Aphilliates Drama was quick to point out, “I haven’t parted ways with Aphilliates. The only thing I can compare it to is a Dipset situation…We’re all still family.”
The Philadelphia born, Atlanta based Drama also mentioned his former partner LA the Dark Man and put an end to the idea that there was any bad blood between the two, “As much as me and LA don’t have any business right now he still put a lot into my career.”
Overall, it appears that Drama is working on building up his own name, telling Angela Yee, “The Appilliates as whole is an organization that is…going in a lot of different directions. Recently, I’ve been focusing on DJ Drama and that’s my brand.” One way he’ll do that will be with the release of Gangsta Gillz: The Album – Volume 3 expected in late 2010 or early 2011.
