In other news, the Hip Hop Caucus has relaunched the “Respect My Vote!” campaign. In 2008, the movement joined Radio One in registering over 32,000 voters in one day. This election season, Respect My Vote! will use Rap legend Special Ed and a number of TBA Hip Hop personalities to encourage voting and an increased voice in politics from the Hip Hop community.

“The Respect My Vote! campaign is designed to educate the Hip Hop community on the importance of voting in every election to help shape public policies for our communities,” stated Reverend Lennox Yearwood, Jr., President of the Hip Hop Caucus.“We had a great turnout for this past Presidential election, but it’s important to understand how vital it is to vote in the mid-term elections so Congress and state and local legislators continue to recognize our voice.”

Lastly, The Roots vocalist Black Thought and deejay J. Period will be performing September 26 in Toronto, Canada as headliners for the fourth annual Manifesto Festival. The duo will perform a “Live Mixtape (Illadelph Edition)” at Yonge-Dundas Square. The event is free and 40,000 are expected to attend.
