Yesterday evening in New York City, emcee/producer David Banner and producer 9th Wonder sat down with Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg and members of the press to discuss their upcoming collaboration album, Death of A Pop Star.

Boasting features such as Ludacris and Marsha Ambrosius, the two Grammy Award-winning artists spent time explaining the inspiration and drive behind the project. Banner revealed, “Money can’t soothe your soul. I was making a lot of money but something didn’t feel right spiritually for me. I just said I wanted to do something different.”

The Mississippian behind hits such as “Like A Pimp” elaborately broke down his thoughts on his definition of art, he and 9th Wonder’s growth as human beings, politics and social issues, and the risks of an artist such as himself taking the path towards releasing a more conscious project. “Our music is dying. If we don’t change something soon, this won’t be an art anymore… Why should somebody buy it if there’s no complexity in it? An art means it’s something that everybody can’t do. Rap music shouldn’t be easy…I want Death of a Pop Star to make you feel a different way, because then it’s an art. It’s something you have to be prepared to listen to.” (June 30)

UPDATE: It was announced this morning that Death of a Pop Star will be released November 9. The duo’s next single, “Be Without You,” featured past collaborator Ludacris. A video is planned for production for the song. (August 9)

UPDATE #2: Last night (November 4) 9th Wonder announced a new release date for Death of a Pop Star, December 21. The action came after increased anticipation for the collaborative album.
