After initial plans to record a new song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, rapper Jay-Z and singer Alicia Keys have decided to scrap the idea.
Citing lack of knowledge for what is considered “the world’s game,” Keys explained, “If we did a record about soccer it would be obvious we didn’t know much more about the sport than who David Beckham is.”
Despite the canceled song, Alicia Keys is still scheduled to perform for the World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert, which occurs on June 10 at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. Other performers for the event include Shakira, the Black Eyed Peas, and John Legend.
In other news, producer/rapper Pharrell Williams has created a new website that caters to teenagers in the digital age.
Stating Kidult.com will be a “reliable news source that speaks directly to teenagers,” the site provides visitors with up-to-date news stories on technology, education, and politics, as well interviews with notable individuals who are making a positive impact on society.
Along with the site, Williams will also be holding a Kidult Youth Leadership Conference on June 26 in New York City’s Sheraton Hotel & Towers. Guest speakers for the event include Mimi Valdes, editor-in-chief of Latina Magazine, and 20-year-old multimillionaire Hezekiah Griggs III, founder of HG3 Media.
