Dr. Dre’s Detox Put On Hold Till 2011?

It looks like fans of Dr. Dre will have to wait just a little longer for the release of his highly-anticipated and hugely delayed solo album Detox.

In a Q&A that will be featured in the March edition of SLAM Magazine Dr. Dre revealed that the album will not be available until next year, 2011.

When asked about Detox Dre responded with the following, “Well, I’m working on it, but also I’ve been working on other people’s projects; you’ll probably hear something in a year or so.”

This latest update is sure to have fans of Dr. Dre wondering if Detox will even be released at all.

Detox was initially set for release several years ago, but Dr. Dre was again swamped with solo projects from several artists on Aftermath and the album was gradually delayed.

Dre did give fans a very small taste of Detox when a snippet from Detox was included in a Dr. Pepper commercial last year.

  • mike1231243:

tired of this crap now iv been waitin on it so long i dont even care if it comes out anymore im just tired of waiting watch everyone else be tired of waiting he wont sell very many copies

  • Tez_03:

Its funny how niggas talkin shit bout Dre but they gon be the first niggas to be beatin that shit in they rides when it drops.... Do your thang Dre im patient I still bump that Chronic and Chronic 2001.

  • HennyNoChase:

i think the long delay speaks to his lack of confidence in quality. we all know, in the industry when albums get pushed back its usually because the material is wack. this album is so over-hyped that it will never meet your expectations. if it ever drops, we'll hear it and say "it's alright, but is this what we waited for?" i'm a fan, so i'll still listen, but i think if it was hot he would have dropped it a long time ago and cashed in

I think by the time Detox is released, it will be into a whole different arena, the longer Dre takes the more the industry changes. I can't help feeling that when this album is released, it will be from a bygone era, and have no relevance in 2011. Hip hop is already dead, gangsterism as a topic is extremely used. Bitch niggaz and ho's is dead. The world has moved on. THere is alwasys room for good music and Dre, but I just hope even with this delay he can come out in front and not behind.

Everyone chill out over the release of detox. It's going to be released but it might take alot longer than we thought because dr. dre is producing for other artists, he won't let his fans down and he'll put out another classic. That's how dre is, he makes us wait until we can't wait anymore and then he puts out a classic that makes up for the wait. I think he should seriosly drop it soon though so we don't give up hopes on him.

  • rarespecies:

If he waits until 2011 its will be only one year longer than the distance between 2001 and The Chronic. If he waits one more year he ill be the best producer for the last 30 years. I think its good hes waiting.

    • carl:

sorry mate but ive gotta correct you here
2001 was realeased in 1999, so 7 years difference
      1999 -> 2010 is 11 years

i agree with louiscollins, no matter when it comes out, it'll be worth the wait ,
untill then the chronic and 2001 is all i need

    • Rambod:

Not true, The Chronic dropped in 92, 2001 dropped in 99.. that makes 7 years. This is now going on 11..........

  • jordanian palestanian:

I like Game but i hope his whole album is better than those two singles kinda made me sick to here such crap come out of my speaker. NOTE TO ANY ARTIST THAT WORKS WITH DR DRE STICK WITH HIS BEATS AND PRODUCTION FOR EXAMPLE 50 CENT AND G-UNIT RECORD SALES HAVE DROPPED DRAMATICALLY NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR A RAPPER SING ABOUT LOVE. IF YOU AGREE PLEASE POST AND LET ME KNOW

  • ethan:

all you fools talkin shit about dre just cause you be impatient? this a fuckn forum dog, take the dick out your ass, quit bein a BITCH NIGGA, and forget about it till its released, yeah its been a while n he shouldnt keep gettn our hopes up but DAMN! SHOW SOME RESPECT! talkn bout how 50 should spit in dre's face and how dre's breastfeeding the game? you nothin but a bitch

  • MC Porter:

You can't really say anything until its release. Yeah i can understand he's takin his time but it could be great, maybe mediocre, and maybe even terrible. When it's terrible you can all give him shit, mediocre you can still give him shit for takin so long, but what if it is a classic? Patience can be great.

  • Hotdamn:

Calm down black people, you all claim that other black people don't know shit, because you 'know' niggaz.. Chill out. get a job, instead of worrying about a cd

  • kevotrfc:

It's OK peeps, just got off the phone with Mel Man and he said that Dre said that Detox might not come out this decade, but definitely by the end of the 20's..... but it might change it's name to BOTOX.

  • remmy:

you know what dr dre is 44 the man says it is his last cd.. that means it will come out right before he leaves the working market when he is 65. so you guys have to wait 21 more year or just forget the album.. for me I think my kids will love that album and am only 23 and donot even have a kid yet hehe

  • 13563546757465:

    Fuck you dre

  • what whuuuutt:

What I have learned from this Detox thing is this. Dre should keep his mouth shut. He is doing himself more harm by talking about tentative release dates and then shelving them himself than he is by saying that 'he will release it when the time is right'. We can believe the latter but have a very hard time digesting the insulting way he tells us something knowing fully well that he will change the dates again.

Remember what Tupac said about Dre? "Dre IS a dope producer but he takes 3 years to do one song!"

While the 3 years to do one song might be exaggerated, the truth is that Dre has a long gestation period for each track. And for all those saying that he is producing for other artists and hence caught up with various projects, let me show you one thing.

Kanye has released THREE albums since 2004! Thats 3 albums in 5 years with his debut album coming 5 years after Chronic 2001!

And I don't think I need to say much about how busy Kanye has been producing Jay-Z, The Game, Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna, T.I., Drake, Estelle and his own 3 albums. Now Kanye might be an arrogant prick but his first two albums are classics and Graduation wasn't bad at all.

Now take the best tracks of Kanye's first 3 albums and compile them into one album.

That's how good Dre's Detox album will have to be in order for him to even retain his mantle as not only the greatest producer of all time, but the greatest producer of the past decade.

    Is he up to it?

    Yeah. Sure. It's Dr.Dre.

But is helping himself with each extension of the nebulous deadline for the album's release?

    HELL NO!

Each passing second loosens Dre's claim as the greatest producer over the last 10 years atleast. And to say that Detox is shouldering MASSIVE expectations would be a massive understatement in itself.

  • lonestar_playa:

detox betta b da god of all albums if it took him ten years to make da shit!

  • dirtydawg:

Um, what about that first sentence??
Dr. Dre still has fans out there!?!
Just kidding. PPl come on, I always say this: Quincy Jones also takes 10 years in between albums. Dr. Dre is simply the first rapper who has achieved a status where he can afford doing whatever he wants. Hip Hop is for the people and fans but Dre got bigger than that and in 30 years time we will appreciate (how do you write this word!?! damn I am German...) each and every one of his albums even more than we already do.
There's enough good music out there other than Dre's Detox-feel free to take a look around :-)

  • marie.lee34:

I was really lookin foward to the new cd and now another year? :(

  • rickreserve:

dr dre your a legend in this game, your probably one of the first rappers i ever heard comin up listening to rap.i fell like your a pioneer who has a good ear for whats good music and your very selective with who and what u deal with.i mean this in no disrespect but your given off the impression that people are on there heals waiting to hear your shit and i have to be honest there not.once a nigga feels as thou he has you commanded to listen then he thinks that sayin his shit is comin and then is not comin is building up anticipation and he couldnt be so far from the truth.if you dont realize that who you are is significant in hip hop then why should anybody else i mean.people love dre but hate the fact that they have to wait for the good doctors music just drop it what could it hurt.personally i dont think there is a detox album i think thats what hes doin personally lol.but your fans need to hear some shit and we not getin no younger come on nigga one love

  • rileypool:

I love the Doctor, but goddamnit, this is pissing me off.

I no longer have my hopes up for Detox and will believe the myth when I see it on shelves.

  • shadyaftermath:

when this album drops it better be a classic. and dont say fuck dre thats just not cool.

  • CANT....BAN......DUKE....... BOY :

    Dr. Dre is an atheist.

    • C-Arson:

Just shut the fuck up. It's obvious your a little dorky nerd with nothing better to do then make shit up and try to make controversy. eat a dick duke. you're a bitch
