Erykah Badu Introduces Return Of the Ankh; Cans Leaked Track

In a second round of previews for her follow-up to 2008’s New Amerykah Pt. 1 4th World War, Erykah Badu sat in New York’s famed Chung King Studios yesterday evening, December 10th, slightly cautious. The night before at Chung King, Badu debuted New Amerykah Pt. 2: Return Of the Ankh to a select few and it resulted in the leaking of one track “Jump In the Air” featuring Lil Wayne. Upon circulating the Internet, Badu removed the track from her album playback the following night. Whether “Jump In the Air” will be included on Ankh’s Feburary 23, 2010 remains to be seen.

“It’s almost like it’s my daughter being put on the auction block,” Badu says of her new album’s playback. “This is therapy for me.” New Amerykah Pt. 2 is a collection of songs that didn’t make Pt. 1, along with several penned this past year. Described as her “right brain” album, the work includes masterful production by 9th Wonder, Madlib, and Erykah Badu herself, with lyrics that compete with her previous works as being the most vulnerable and heartfelt. At one point in the evening, Badu broke down and wept upon discussing her son Seven, whom she shares with Andre 3000.

“I don’t smoke, I don’t drink,” Badu explained. “This is what I do.”
