Love And Basketball

May 21st, 2001 | DVD Release | Author:

A basketball movie from a women's perspective. Love And Basketball is a love story about two childhood friends, Monica (Lathan) and Quincy (Epps) who are also both talented basketball players but, because of their gender, are destined for two different careers. Growing up next door to each other, Monica and Quincy become rivals on the driveway basketball court where they grow into friends and, ultimately, into lovers.

As their respective basketball careers evolve, their relationship becomes complicated. Possibly because the director was female, the film gives the viewer insight into the disparity between men's and women's professional basketball leagues. Quincy is able to be a pro at home while Monica must go abroad to follow her passion. The film thus becomes an examination of love for basketball and the love of one person for another and following one's heart when one loves two things equally.
