HHDX: So they played a big part in helping you get on though, right?
YJ: Hell naw, he wouldn’t tell you that. How would you assume that, why would you say that?
HHDX: I talked to Bleu Davinci a while ago and he had his little words to say, you know.
YJ: Nah man, I ain’t thinking about that shit, my man is good.
HHDX: Now with you being in the game for a little bit, what you think it would take to remain successful in this industry?
YJ: Aw man, just doing what I do staying Jeezy and staying down, you know what I mean.
HHDX: So you think fans are going to remember Jeezy as a legend one day?
YJ: I would hope so, that’s what I’m aiming for [laughs].
HHDX: I know you would like that after performing at the hip-hop honors not too long ago!
YJ: Yeah, it is what it is man. I’m just trying to keep the streets alive man, especially with the culture and the type of music we do. It’s a different type of music and if you don’t stay at it, it could fade back out.
HHDX: Yo, what’s good with cats saying you a crip or something, what’s the deal with that?
YJ: What you mean? What they saying, you asking some silly questions homey.
HHDX: I’m asking you, you tell me!
YJ: What they saying, what you hear?
HHDX: You know how you read stuff!
YJ: Oh okay, well I’m definitely affiliated if that’s what you asking.
HHDX: Alright I feel you on that, back to your new album what made you give it that title?
YJ: I mean you know, it was basically they inspired me to inspire them. That’s what I was on it, my whole thing was catering to the streets. I’m catering to the people that listen to my music and my voice and that’s what inspires me. When a cat walks up to me and tell me keep doing what I’m doing keeping the streets alive, that’s who I do it for, that’s my goal. A lot of cats don’t understand that. They think my music is just for the trap boys, the d-boys, but it’s a bigger picture than that. I made it so cats can understand my music and why we act a certain way and why we do certain things, especially for the people who don’t understand us. The ones who don’t understand the streets.
HHDX: How did you develop lyrically as an artist since the last album though?
YJ: I think I developed as a person you know what I mean. I would say a person, I wouldn’t say lyrically. You grow as a person and you only get more confident with your lyrics. I definitely got more confident, but at the end of the day I think I grew as a person. Continued on page 4 »
