You teamed up with DJ Drama a couple of years ago and now he has his situation going on at Atlantic. You think having a hot DJ behind you is a plus now for any aspiring artist?
You remember that list of things I just mentioned earlier, the things you have to check off, well that right there is one of them, you have to get yourself a hot DJ.
Drama is one of the best if not the best out there right now on the mixtape circuit, so when the ‘King of the South’ went shopping for a DJ what was it about Drama that made you realize your connection would be good for both parties?
I just say for real he was really putting in his work and building a brand, the same as we were and there wasn’t nobody else really, you know that was our competition and when we were doing our mixtapes there was nobody selling Gangsta Grillz but in the streets and it was another no-brainer. You know we been cool since I first started, you know when I fist signed and started working on my first album, he was just starting the Gangsta Grillz brand so we came up together.
King featured on XXL’s Ten Most Anticipated Albums of the Year list, was it easy for you making this album, and was there times when it was hard coming as you have a reputation to keep up?
I mean it was difficult at times, but it worked as I think it is my best album.
What would your classic throwback album be?
All Eyez on Me- Tupac
If you had to leave an album behind that would be to educate people on Hip-Hop what would that be, the same?
I think that would be an Outkast one, man that’s a hard question but yeah it would be Outkast.
