According to a familiar cliché, a picture is worth a thousand words. Your favorite celebrities—including rappers—are doing less and less press, but luckily their thumbs and smartphones still work. Instagram has provided a way for them to document their lives and/or thoroughly embarrass themselves for our collective enjoyment. The beauty of it all is that you don’t even need to join Instagram, as most rappers are perfectly fine leaving their feeds open for public viewing. And if you’d rather avoid the IG life altogether, we’ve filtered through the top rapper’s pictures and videos and consolidated all the week’s events into one convenient feed.
This week, T.I. plays an impromptu soccer match against Brazilian locals, Pharrell curates an art exhibit in Paris and Big Boi sends a birthday shoutout to his partner in crime, Andre 3000. Check the rest of the week’s top Instagram posts below.
Don't Quit Your Day Job, 50 Cent
"And his first pitch was not great." I want to believe the announcers were expecting greatness to come from 50 Cent's Thor-like upper limbs for the New York Mets vesus Pittsburgh Pirates opening pitch. But I'm almost positive they were not expecting was a pitch so far to the left that, according to 50, it "almost hit the camera man." A pitch so far to the left that inspired the Washington Post to create a chart to confirm that 50 Cent had the worst pitch ever. A pitch so far to the left that a New York City cop took time from fighting serious crime to pull 50 Cent over, for no reason, but to tell him that his pitch was terrible. 50 Cent will be back at Citi Field on June 14th for a concert but he should really considering re-doing his first pitch.
Kardashian-West Wedding Photo Breaks Instagram Record
Everyone likes a good wedding photo, right? If you answered no, then I'm assuming you're not part of the 2.01 million (and counting) that double-tapped Kim Kardashian's wedding picture that was posted on Instagram earlier this week. In case you were wondering, 2.01 million is more than the population of Latvia but less than the population of Botswana. Trust me, Wikipedia never lies. The fairy tale wedding photo also broke an Instagram record for, you guessed it, most likes on Instagram. It shouldn't come as a surprise since the reality-starlet-and-now-Mrs.-Kardashian-West boasts almost 15 million followers.
Tyler, The Creator Loves The Kids
If Odd Future's Tyler, The Creator ever wanted to run for mayor, citizens would be rushing to have him take a picture with their children. Look at how natural Tyler is with the kids. In the picture on the left, he's cradling a little girl who looks like she's in the heavenly presence of the boogie monster. In the picture on the top right, the tie-dyed wearing rapper is posing with a young child, red from the pressure of the tears voluntarily being forced out of his ducts. In the picture on the bottom right, overly excited Tyler puts his face next to a crying baby who is pushing Tyler's face away like an innate form of self defense. Forget Wu-Tang, Tyler is for the children!
T.I. Plays Soccer In Brazil, #NoWorldCup
The original post was supposed to be T.I. proving to the Hip Hop world that Floyd Mayweather did not give him two black eyes but it was hard to ignore the collection of pictures he was taking while on a trip to Brazil. While browsing through Tip's gallery, I noticed that the Kang made his way to the favelas, also known as Brazilian slums or as T.I. would say, "the traps of Brazil," to play a little game called fútbol with the locals. After a tiresome game with Brazilian beauties, T.I. joined in on the fun and even took off his chain to show the people that he means business. It's no World Cup but the Southern rapper had the chance to show off a little soccer playing skills during the match.
Yasiin Bey And Common In Paris
Earlier this week, Common posted a picture with his friend Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, with the caption, "A night out with Mighty Mos in Paris #artandconversation." Which is all fine and dandy except, Mos Def isn't allowed to reenter the United States, according to everyone, and we're still figuring out why. No official reps have confirmed or denied this story but the Brooklyn emcee did cancel his U.S. tour with very vague reasons. Maybe he wanted to extend his trip? Or maybe he didn't want to miss the year's biggest wedding? – Which he did attend, here's proof. Yasiin looks like he's not hiding from anything so maybe he did wanted to stay in Paris for extra art and conversation. Who can blame him.
Meek Mill's Pillow Looks Like A Wad Of Cash
When you spend a lot of time flying in a private jet from party to party, you want to be sure to have something soft and fluffy to rest your head on for the naps between flights. Meek Mill took that advice and created a resting space with a stack of cash. The Maybach Music member is known for his flashy Instagram posts. After all, he is carrying out a mission to show others the other side of life "beyond the hood," as stated in his Instagram bio. So back to that stack, Meek was seen counting the cash on the plane earlier. Who needs a wallet when you can carry a tall stack of cold hard cash in your hands?
Pharrell Williams Curates An Art Exhibit In Paris
Pharrell Williams adds art curator to his long list of gigs, which includes rapper, singer, producer and fashion designer. The "Happy" artist had the opportunity to curate his own exhibit named "G I R L" after his recent album. Filled with modern art, the show displays art created by (personal) friends of Williams, such as JR, Takashi Murakami, KAWS, and Johan Creten, and also includes classic pop culture art. As you can see, "curated by Pharrell Williams" is at the top of the board and serves as his latest dive into the creative world. If you happen to be in Paris, the exhibition is currently open and will close June 25.
Big Boi Wishes Andre 3000 A "Happy Birthday"
There's nothing that screams "Happy Birthday" more than a 20-year-old throwback picture posted by a friend on a social network. "Happy birthday to my brother from another mother Andre' Benjamin ! #Outkast20," wrote Big Boi, along with posting a vintage flick with him and Andre 3000. The duo joined forces when they were high school students back in 1992 so you can only imagine the collection of pictures Big Boi has in the image vault. OutKast is currently touring for their 20th anniversary, performing at over 40 music festivals worldwide.
Talib Kweli Reacts To Maya Angelou's Death
"Absolutely heartbroken. We love you Maya. Rest in power Queen," wrote Talib Kweli as the caption for the portrait he posted of Maya Angelou. The writer and poet passed away on Wednesday, May 28, at the age of 86, and left many admirers with broken hearts. Not only did her words become engrained in minds all over the world, Hip Hop also held a very special place for Dr. Angelou. Rappers like Kanye West and Common expressed their admiration for the poet. In an interview with TIME, Angelou was asked if she was optimistic about poetry to which she responded, "All I have to do is listen to Hip Hop or some of the rappers." Rest in power, Maya Angelou.
Nicki Minaj's $50,000 Selfie
Over the weekend, Young Money queen Nicki Minaj posted a selfie with Floyd Mayweather's daughter at her 14th birthday party at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. What we didn't know is that selfie came with a price. It looks like Ms. Minaj was reportedly paid $50,000 to attend the party, where she stayed for about an hour and took a couple pictures with Mayweather's daughter Iyanna. A birthday shoutout, "HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY IYANNA!!!!!!!!!!," and a picture post from Nicki might have been enough for a 14-year-old. A massive increase in followers is worth every penny.
