June 25th, 2008 | Author: Quinton Hatfield

The Hip Hop industry is indeed heavily criticized right now as many purist argue extremely it lacks diversity. The dance epidemic may be working many longtime rap fan's nerves, but you have to admit it's not likely going anywhere. Last year Soulja Boy created a phenomenon when he dropped “Crank Dat Soulja boy.” As time went on everywhere you went, especially online, somebody was cranking something.

Now a duo that included a emcee and singer brings you to the game Nitro and Jelly. Though having their own “Crank Dat” song they didn’t even manage to call it anything and just went ahead with “Do The Wassa Name.” The two you can now get more familiar with below and as to why their more than just one song that was really based off of having fun.

Where The New Single “Do The Wassa Name” Comes From:
According to Nitro, "It came from a clown session in the studio. Two days ago we just went on YouTube and we’ve seen "Crank that Ironman, Batman, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Scooby-Doo, Pokemon." I’m like, “What the fuck?" Even before that, we just heard a few of them and it was like you can make a song out of any ol' thing. We was just clowning in the studio playing and we said, “Do The Wassa Name” and the shit got catchy.

Did They Ever Think The Song Would Get This Big: "Man after what I told you, we didn’t know this song was gonna get this big. [Laughs] We had to be honest and say this is our fun track so we can’t shy away from this. Jelly is a true R&B singer for real and I’m a true emcee," says Nitro.

Fans Response: "It’s actually blowing our minds and when we performed the song for the first time we didn’t even know how to introduce the song. Me and Jelly busted they ass on some real shit two or three songs before, now I got to perform this song and I’m going “What The Fuck.” When the song came on, it was like it been on the radio for five months. I read on HipHopDX, out of 14, 15 comments 12 of them was good," reveals Nitro.

Jelly’s Influences To Pursue A Career As An R&B Singer:
"The list is long, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, and many others. I definitely want to bring that real R&B back to the game."

On The Prospects Of Doing A R&B/Hip Hop Collaborative Album:
"I don’t know man, Jay-Z [click to read] and [R. Kelly] almost killed us with that, but they did it on a high level."

On The Future Of Hip Hop: Nitro says, "The more things change, the more they stay the same. What people consider a dance epidemic, it’s not really a epidemic, it’s just a new circle. Just like the gangsta situation - it was gangsta with N.W.A., Ice Cube [click to read], 2Pac, and a number of people. Hammer had it going, Fresh Prince was on some fun shit. You got the same genres of Hip Hop it’s just a different day."

On Today’s Music Industry:
"It’s all digital," states Nitro. "Everybody got an iPod and a laptop. I don’t got time to go to the digital store and get no [CD]; that’s a waste of time. I got an iPhone, I got a “I” everything. Everything is “I” and “my,” it’s a “me” lifestyle, so I need it right now. It’s going back to the single days and it’s like, 'I don’t even give a fuck about your album, keep me the two songs I want off that motherfucka and I’m a keep moving.' Saying all of that in this fast-food, drive-thru, minute maid industry hopefully we throw some substance in the game."

How Do They Want To Be Remembered: "The greatest of all time," Jelly says with a laugh. Nitro adds, "I want to leave a mark just like Martin, Malcolm, 'Pac, and even if you look at Mike [Jackson]. It don’t matter what any of these lil' niggas do, it all stems from Mike. Chris Brown, Usher [click to read], Ne-Yo [click to read] that where most of they moves and dancing come from. If you tryna be a strong boxer you gotta try to be Ali or at least a Tyson."
